Bulldog Puppies

Bulldog puppies should never be bought on impulse. Though present-day Bulldogs are very friendly and have an amiable personality, their temperament and working abilities develop only in well-bred and properly trained dogs. The best source to buy a purebred puppy from is a responsible breeder who screens the breeding stock for all typical disorders and gives the puppies the best care.

All Bulldog puppies are cute and funny, but when they grow up without necessary socialization and obedience training, they may be stubborn, territorial, possessive, and dominating. The potential of a puppy depends on the breeder, but it’s the owner who is responsible for the development of the puppy’s potential. Bulldogs are not the best choice for first-time owners, because they need an experienced owner with a strong hand and profound knowledge on the breed. There are several varieties of Bulldogs, each one developed for particular purposes.

Bulldog puppies need much care and attention, especially during the period of housebreaking. The first year is crucial for the development of the dog. If a puppy is not given socialization and at least basic obedience training, it will be difficult to train later in life. So, if you don’t have experience, desire to train the dog, or enough time to spend with a Bulldog puppy, buy an adult dog that is already given all necessary training. Besides training and socialization, Bulldogs need regular grooming, cleaning, and vet care. Though shorthaired, Bulldogs shed a considerable amount of hair. Daily grooming helps reduce shedding. Bulldog’s eyes, ears, nose, as well as wrinkles and facial folds need frequent cleaning. Regular shots and vet checks are very important even for a healthy dog. Preventing a disorder on an early stage is much better than curing it.

If you are not going to show or breed a purebred dog, but just want a family companion, consider adopting an adult or senior Bulldog. Breed rescues provide homeless dogs with necessary training, give them vaccinations, and rehabilitate them. Bulldog puppies are very rarely available for adoption, because their owners like to play with them and give them up to rescues only when they become difficult to live with.
